【Abstract】 As one of the most popular television shows, animation has a great influence on children s development. Nowadays, people are paying more attention on animations and thinking highly of them. The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People s Republic of China has set several policies about animation to support the development of animation industry, especially for China-made animations. According to the previous studies, a lot of the settings of media have gender stereotype and gender prejudice. So it is important to see if there are gender equalities in children s animation.According to analysis the previous documents, the studies about the gender role is mostly about the adult s gender development and the current situations of gender role development. There is a little study for children s gender role and most of them are about the analysis of current situation for the gender role development and in the psychological area. There are very few studies about the children s gender role development in media area. As we all know, the period of children is the formation time of gender role and has a great influence on gender role development. The development of children is not mature enough and they are good at imitation. It makes media has a great influence on children s gender role development. So this study will analyze the features of animation character s gender role, seek for the gender consciousness of the animation designers and pursue the influence of the gender role development.This paper has two parts of studies. One is to choose several children as the interviewees at first. According to the interview, we need to choose the most favorite animations for children, to know the reasons why they like them, and to choose the main characters of the animations. The second part of the study is analyzing their gender role, and seeking the current situations of the gender role settings. Last but not the least, according to the studies above, we will pursue the hidden value and gender consciousness for the animation designers, and give some suggestions, to reduce the unscientific orientations as gender bias and gender stereotype for the animation character settings.According to the first part of the study, the most favorite animations are similar. The setting of the animation characters is the very important reason for children to like the animation. According to the second part of the study, in the settings of the animation characters, the male roles are higher than female not only in the number but also in quality. The role of female is mostly supporting part and they look all the same beautiful, which makes there are a lot similar settings and not as good as the male roles. It is not richness and profound.According to the studies, when the animation designers are setting the animation characters, they put several gender stereotype and gender bias in. When children are looking at the animations, they are under the influence of the unscientific gender consciousness, which have a bad influence on their gender role development and gender consciousness construction. So the designers of the animation must have the scientific gender consciousness. And when they are design the animation characters, they should guide the children with the scientific gender role consciousness. This need not only meets the children needs and create the characters that children like, but also increase the diversity and richness of gender role, to promote the cognitive development for different kinds of gender role.
