高中英语教师中国文化失语现象研究 ——以达州市某中学高中英语教师为例

【摘要】 文化教学是英语教学过程中不可分割的一部分,许多专家和学者对二者关系进行了深入研究,也取得了不少成果。但其成果主要集中于对目的语文化的研究,而忽视了跨文化交际的另一主体方。直到“中国文化失语”这一概念出现时,人们才意识到身边许多英语学习者可以用英语对西方文化侃侃而谈,却不能用英语来表达中国传统文化,这一“失语现象”才引起了人们对英语中中国文化表达的重视。本次研究主要讨论了教师在英语教学过程中是否存在中国文化失语现象,并针对该问题从以下两个角度展开研究:(1)他们在教学中对中国文化的态度与处理方式如何?(2)从教师角度进行成因分析。基于以上角度,本文提出一些解决方案,从而引起教师在英语教学中对母语文化的重视,让英语更好为我国传统文化的传播服务。本研究基于Hanvey的跨文化交际意识、课标中对文化教学目标的要求、金莉和于霞对文化教学原则的观点以及胡文仲、高一虹提出的文化教学方法而展开了调查。本次研究将定量与定性相结合,其中研究方法包括问卷调查、访谈和课堂观察。问卷为主,访谈和课堂观察作为辅助。通过对问卷调查、访谈和课堂观察结果的分析,了解高中英语教师在教学中对中国文化的态度,处理方式以及建议等方面信息,为本次研究提供一些有效的数据信息。本次研究有以下发现:教师总体对于中国文化持有积极的态度和浓厚的兴趣,对其在教学中的重要性也充分肯定,但许多教师却不能熟练使用英语来讲解母语文化,并且在教学中很多教师较少涉及对到母语文化的讲解,这说明在教学中部分教师确实存在“中国文化失语”现象。而造成这一现象的主要原因有:(1)教材上对中国文化的配置缺乏系统性;(2)教师文化教学理念的偏颇以及自身对中国文化英语表达不够熟悉;(3)现行高考较少涉及中国文化的内容;(4)教师的教学方法主要是直接讲解,采用的教学资源主要是英语教材,教学方式和资源较为单一。针对这一问题,本文尝试给出以下建议:(1)整合教材内容,积极开发校本教材,丰富教学内容;(2)加强教师自身素质,开展并参加中国文化英语表达的相关培训;(3)采取多种教学手段和评价方式,开展文化专题活动;(4)开展与中国文化英语表达相关的社团活动或讲座。

【Abstract】 Culture teaching is an inseparable part in English teaching process.Many experts and scholars have studied on the relationship between them and have achieved something.However,the achievements mainly focus on the study of the target language culture,while ignoring the other subject of intercultural communication.Until the concept of “Chinese cultural aphasia” appeared,people realized that many English learners could talk about western culture in English eloquently,but could not express Chinese traditional culture in English.This “aphasia phenomenon” attracted people’s attention to the expression of Chinese culture in English.This study mainly discusses whether teachers have Chinese cultural aphasia in the process of English teaching,and from the following two perspectives to discuss:(1)What are their attitudes towards Chinese culture in teaching and how did they deal with them?(2)Conducting a cause analysis from a teacher’s perspective.The author tries to propose some solutions from the teacher’s perspective so as to cause teacher’s attention to the native culture in English teaching and promote the better development of Chinese traditional culture.Based on Hanvey’s cross-cultural communication awareness,the requirements of National English Curriculum Standards for General High School,Niu Li and Yu Xia’s views on the principles of cultural teaching,and the cultural teaching methods proposed by Hu Wenzhong and Gao Yihong,this study begun and it has combined quantitative and qualitative methods together.Research methods include questionnaires,interviews,and classroom observations.Questionnaire-based,interviews and classroom observations were used as an aid.Through the analysis of questionnaires,interviews and classroom observations,we can know the attitudes,methods and suggestions of high school English teachers in Chinese culture in their teaching,which can provide some effective data for this study.The main findings of this study are: teachers generally have a positive attitude and strong interest in Chinese culture,and the importance in teaching is fully affirmed.But many teachers are not proficient in using English to explain the native culture,and many teachers get little involved in the explanation of it in their teaching,which shows that Chinese cultural aphasia does exist in their teaching.The main reasons for this phenomenon are:(1)lack of systematicity about Chinese culture in the textbooks;(2)the bias of the teachers’ culture teaching concepts and not familiar with Chinese cultural English expressions;(3)less involvement in the current college entrance examination about Chinese culture;(4)The main teaching method and resource are direct explanation and English textbooks,and the teaching methods and resources are relatively simple.In response to this problem,the author tries to give the following suggestions:(1)integrate textbook content,actively develop school-based textbooks and enrich the teaching content;(2)strengthen the teachers’ own quality and carry out the relevant training courses about Chinese culture;(3)adopt a variety of evaluation and teaching methods and carry out cultural special activities;(4)conduct English club activities or lectures related to Chinese culture.
